This Galway Arts Festival was kind of special for me, it marks ten years since I first went to anything connected with the festival. As I remember, it was a little bit daunting and I didn’t know what to expect, but when I got to go, I first discovered how vibrant the city gets in those two weeks of the festival. Not that I’m saying that the Film Fleadh or the Races don’t show this side of Galway, it does. But there is something really special about these two weeks. The thing I like the most about the festival is the fact that there isn’t the same feeling of exclusivity and secrecy to it like what you see happen with the Film Fleadh.

Also, adding to that, the amount of quality acts that you get to see during the festival.  During previous festivals, I saw Blondie live, Whose Line is it Anyways, the celebration of Synge plays to name a few. This year, I had the pleasure of going to see Uncle Vanya, One Small Step, Cathy Davey and I got to see Ian Rankin talk about his novels and got two novels signed, what a treat. The Arts festival also showcases some seriously impressive art exhibitions. Only this year, they had a Matisse exhibition as well as ‘I’m Here’ by Spike Jonze.

Have uploaded a few vids from this years festival from the big top
